iNARTE Update December 2014: Over the past several months we have been receiving questions from our members and interested individuals from the professional engineering organizations about the status of iNARTE, and iNARTE / Exemplar Global developments.

The iNARTE program is in its 30th year of certifying professionals in the EMC, ESD, Product Safety and Telecommunications disciplines. Most of you might recall that in 2012 iNARTE was merged with RABQSA, a not-for-profit worldwide personnel certification body. In 2013 RABQSA changed its name to Exemplar Global.

This merger of iNARTE into a larger organization still maintains continuity to its subject matter experts and industry advocates. As part of the merger, we established the iNARTE Advisory Committee (INAC) which consists of engineering experts, some of whom had served on the iNARTE board. They represent the major iNARTE technical disciplines and participate in applicant reviews as needed. Moreover, several of the INAC members also serve on our Exemplar Global Board of Directors — including our Chairman. In addition, we have relationships with the major professional societies — EMCS, EOS/ESD Association, PSES — who are also our partners in our exam development and industry connection.

So, iNARTE is now part of a larger certification organization that also reflects the iNARTE base of expertise.

Exemplar Global is a subsidiary of ASQ (American Society for Quality) the largest society of quality management professionals in the world. In addition to certifying over 4,000 iNARTE engineers, Exemplar Global certifies 10,000 quality management system auditors and other professionals, as well as 90 training organizations. We are the largest global personnel certification body and now provide a much greater critical mass for the iNARTE program. Moreover, we are now in a position to ensure that the iNARTE certifications meet global accreditation grade requirements.

We will soon announce a recertification program that will be based on the date of original certification. There will be a transition period as this change is phased in. Every four years, certified iNARTE Professionals will need to demonstrate continuing conformity with the current certification requirements for the grade of certification awarded. More information will be announced in the near future.

Another change is that there will be a new iNARTE website, including an online automatic application and renewal customer portal. This will provide 24/7 service.

There has yet been no major change in the requirements for new certification in terms of basic education, knowledge and professional experience requirements. The requirements for Associate Engineer and Technician status remain the same. This is a credential that can be renewed annually until the requirement for full engineer or technician status is met.

There are some improvements that you should be aware of. The process for new applicants has been expedited as follows:

  • Submittal of new test questions is no longer a requirement for certification.
  • The previous application process had allowed up to five years from the date of the original application for provide supporting documentation/examination results in order to meet certification requirements. The application process has now been realigned to the existing Exemplar Global processes. Applicants now have one year from submission and payment of their application to provide any additional qualifying information or documents.
  • This means that applicants should not apply until they can meet the requirements within a year. (This does not apply to Associate status — see above).
